Radio Facts, the industry website that focuses primarily on Urban Radio, held a poll to see which were the Top 20 radio programs of 2011. The website opened up the voting to terrestrial (syndicated and non-syndicated), satellite and Internet radio shows. The Chicago market blew away the competition from the rest of the country, including taking the top spots.

The contest was completely voter driven, meaning that the winners are chosen by the number of votes the personalities/programs could garner by getting their fans to visit the Radio Facts website and vote. The winners were chosen by fans, not by any panel of experts.

Here is how Chicago radio personalities fared in this poll:

#1 – Jonathan Hood & Jarrett Payton – ESPN1000′s Chicago GameNight (WMVP-AM). Taking the top spot is nightly sports wrap up show with Chicago sports talk veteran J-Hood and Walter Payton’s son Jarrett (who is turning into a very good sports talker). The show mixes the hosts’ deep sports knowledge with music and a whole lot of laughs to gain an ever-growing audience each night. The only African-American sports talk duo on the radio in Chicago.

#2 – Chris Base – Baseline (WYAM – This incredibly & consistently well-done Internet talk show, which airs live once a week on Saturday mornings on a little known Chicago Internet radio station, beat out hundreds of other radio shows heard by the masses on terrestrial radio five days a week. Nothing against working on the Internet, but it is way past time for this Chicago radio veteran to return to Chicago’s airwaves to make an impact there.

#6 – Tony Sculfield & The Morning Riot (WGCI-FM). The funny & upbeat morning program on WGCI is not only popular in the ratings, but proved to be popular in this poll, as well. Comedians Tony Sculfield and Leon Rogers, along with WGCI/WKSC’s Nina Chantele deliver the smiles and the energy needed to get Chicago’s day started.

#19 – Steve Harvey – The Steve Harvey Morning Show (syndicated). The former Chicago radio star is now syndicated nationwide. He is currently heard each morning locally on WVAZ-FM. In addition to his radio show, he is an author, comedian, and has numerous TV projects currently going on
